Monday, December 4 We finished decorating our room for our Rainforest Christmas. Even Bob, our 30 foot Green Anaconda, donned a Santa hat and beard, thanks to Mrs. Kinney! In Mandarin, we learned some holiday vocabulary and a new song. We visited the Kindergarten hall where Mrs. Davenport spent the week of Thanksgiving Break designing, making and decorating the hall as Whoville with the Grinch! We also went and looked at the pinatas the middle schoolers made for the lower school students to break open during Spanish with Maestra Rojas. Tuesday, December 5 Today we celebrated Maren's birthday with cookies. Mrs. Jenkins surprised us with a mini dance party! We had our JK4 performance, and they did great! They were so excited to perform for their families. :) We started working on learning a Christmas dance. In P.E., we played a whole class Christmas game in which the elves tried to fill the stocking with gifts and the grinches tried to block the presents from getting in. Wednesday, December 6 In Art, the kiddos made little Christmas trees by gluing scraps and glitter on to paper. Unfortunately, the glue did not hold anything to the paper, but it was a fun process for the class. Maestra Rojas picked out a festive turtle pinata for our class to use during their fiesta! They went on a cold hike with Mr.B in the woods, and had fun exploring our trails. Thursday, December 7 We celebrated Rob's birthday with donuts. We practiced our Christmas dance. We met with our second grade STEAM buddies and played a cooperative Math game with Grinch rules! :) In Acorns to Oaks with Mrs. Maggie the kiddos made feeders for the birds on our campus. They spread lard on pine cones and rolled them in birdseed. In P.E., we put on our antlers and became reindeer for our Reindeer Training Center. They had to perform various challenges to prove that they could pull Santa's sleigh. Friday, December 8 Today was Andrew's birthday and we celebrated with cupcakes. Today's Act of Kindness from our Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar was probably our most difficult to date. On other days, we had to smile at someone who needed it, say hello, and give someone a compliment. Today, they had to look someone in the eye, while smiling and saying Merry Christmas and give them a candy cane. Our Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar not only helps them practice important social skills, but they learn about the importance of giving. They start to understand that a simple act of kindness can change someone's day for the better. We talk about the ripple effect of kindness. They also want to hand out snowflakes as an act of kindness so we began learning how to fold and cut them. It's great for fine motor development. :) |
