Monday, August 21 We started the day by playing with our friends, and Morning Meeting. We listened to Father Matt discuss the importance of saying things that are kind. We found more pumpkins and tomatoes growing in the garden. In Writing Workshop, we came up with ideas about why we write, and we worked on our first directed drawing. We worked in our Handwriting Without Tears books. We met some new characters in Mandarin, and had a freeze dance party! |

Tuesday, August 22 Today was Leon's birthday, we sang happy birthday to him in Chapel, and later sang to him again and celebrated with cupcakes. We enjoyed our first Library enrichment with Mrs. Clark. Each week, our kiddos will be able to check out a new book that they can take back to the classroom for a week. We worked on gross motor and ball handling skills in P.E. We practiced our letter/sound songs and dances, and as soon we learn them, we will record the kiddos performing them and post it on this website. So cute! |

Wednesday, August 23 We had art with Mrs. Mealor, and the class added to their collaborative art piece that they began last week. One of the great things that Mrs. Mealor teaches the children is that there are no mistakes in art. If they don't like what they have created, then they need "to change the story". This helps them start to understand the concept that they can control how they perceive things, frame them differently, and choose to move forward in a positive way. The kiddos went on a hike with Mr. B and enjoyed learning about some of the history of our land, and visiting where the natural spring begins. We started our assessments today, and will do a few children daily until we have finished. They practiced some common conversational sayings in Spanish, and did a great job! |

Thursday, August 24 The kiddos went on a color and shape hunt with Mrs. Maggie. She read them a book about colors and shapes, and then they went outside to find as many colors and shapes as they could. First Grade received their tiny Monarch caterpillars, so we went to the butterfly garden to discuss what types of leaves these caterpillars would be eating. In P.E., the kiddos worked on running stamina for the upcoming ESK Fun Run on Friday, September 8. We continued working on the beginning of the year assessments. Friday, August 25 We started our Friday by working the muscles in our hands playing with play-do. We celebrated Callen's birthday by singing to her in Chapel, and by eating a dinosaur cookie in the room. We have just four assessments left! :) In Music, we sang a lot of fun movement songs. This group loves music and enjoys learning new songs. We had a great second week! |
