Monday, August 14 Our first day, finally!! Upon arrival, everyone chose their own color of play dough, and relaxed and visited with friends. Everyone created very imaginative sculptures! Then we started Morning Meeting and started to work on building our classroom community. We bonded over some silly dance/freeze songs, and we discussed daily routines and expectations. Then, off we went to our first JK4 Chapel with Father Matt, and then spent some time on the playground. The kiddos had fun in Mandarin with Mrs. Sherry, and were adorably exhausted by the end of the day. Tuesday, August 15 We started our day with a quick Morning Meeting because the kiddos were requesting some of the same silly songs from the day before. Today, we had our first Eucharist of the year, and Father Matt came to our classroom. Many of our friends took part in Eucharist, and many others abstained. We would normally have Library with Mrs. Clark on Tuesdays, but she was helping her son move into his dorm for the first time! :) Mrs. Kinney and I took the class to the library and explained how it works for JK4. We had our 1st P.E. with the AMAZING Pansie Evans! (When this program started she was scheduled to only meet with our kiddos once a week, and she gave up some of her planning time in order to see them twice! Yes, I work with some awesome people!) Wednesday, August 16 Wednesday is our busy with enrichments day!! :) We started with drawing pictures for writing workshop. We learned that our illustrations have to have at least 5 colors, and we discussed labeling our pictures with invented spelling or phonetic spelling. Then we had Art with Mrs. Mealor who is a phenomenal teacher, as well as artist. (My sister owns one of her paintings.) After Art, the class heads straight to Spanish with Maestra Rojas! They always learn such fun songs and stories from her! Of course, they always look forward to the yearly pinatas! Last, certainly not least, the class went on an informative nature tour with their hero, Mr. B. Thursday, August 17 At this point in the first week, the kiddos are getting very tired! It takes a lot to get back in the swing of things. When we visited the chickens and looked for eggs, we realized the 3rd graders had not yet started cleaning the coop! The class ran from the smell! Lol!! On Thursdays, they have ATO with Mrs. Maggie. She used to work at the Muse and when ESK asked for her expertise to start this program, we lucked out! They went on a nature color hunt! Thursdays are also our day to enjoy our second P.E.!! Friday, August 18 Today we had our first fire drill, and our only announced one of the year! Because it was scheduled during JK4 's Chapel time, Father Matt came to our room for prayers. On Fridays, we have Music with Mrs. Ward. We also get to enjoy her fun and engaging music daily in Chapel! You will see that our class schedule will change a few more times (we have yet to add Book Buddies and STEAM Buddies). After it has solidified, I will post it here on our website. |
