Monday, December 4 We finished our Christmas Kapok Tree. It is decorated with tropical snakes, Blue Morpho-ish Butterflies, and Leaf Cutter Ants carrying candy canes instead of leaves. We visited the Kindergarten hall where Mrs. Davenport has single-handedly changed it to Whoville complete with Grinch. She is very talented!! We saw all the pinatas that the students in middle school have made for the students in lower school to break open with Maestra Rojas. We discussed our Acts of Kindness advent calendar and came up with a list of acts that we will perform daily until Christmas break. Tuesday, December 5 Today was our Christmas concert and the class did an amazing job! They were so excited to perform for their families! Even Bob (yes that is the name the kiddos decided to name our 30 foot Green Anaconda hanging from the ceiling Lol) dressed up by donning a Santa hat and beard-thanks to Mrs. Kinney. It was Maren's birthday and we celebrated with cookies. Mrs. Jenkins came to our room for an impromptu dance party, and we played a Christmas game in P.E. Wednesday, December 6 In Art, the kiddos were given snippets of an evergreen to decorate with glue and glitter. They were very sweet looking, however, they did not want to stick to the paper. For one of their acts of kindness, the class decided that they want to give snowflakes to our community at ESK. So we started working on making snowflakes. It was Pinata Day in Spanish. Maestra Rojas picked out a festive green turtle as our class pinata (and yes I do realize that there should be a mark above the n in pinata, but I do not know how to type it). We also discovered a Christmas dance that the kiddos enjoyed learning. https://youtu.be/6MOqbriV6GI?si=KA7Fqyb29oQi1vYq Thursday, December 7 Today was Rob's birthday and we celebrated with donuts. We met with our Second Grade STEAM Buddies today, and learned to play a Grinch math game. They had so much fun!! In ATO with Mrs. Maggie, the kiddos covered pine cones with lard and birdseed to hang in the trees for birds. We knew that today in P.E. would be our Reindeer Training boot camp-so we made antlers for each kiddo to wear while they were completing their challenges! We went back to Kindergarten hall and took turns sitting in a line in front of a sleigh being driven by the Grinch! We found and thanked Mrs. Davenport for making and sharing all of her wonderful creations!! Friday, December 8 We worked on cutting out more snowflakes to hand out to others. Our Acts of Kindness that we have performed so far this week have been to share a smile with people, give people compliments, and to say hello in order to make everyone in our community feel welcome. Today, our Act of Kindness is to walk up to a teacher, look them in the eye, smile, and say Merry Christmas while handing them a candy cane. These Acts of Kindness are to help the kiddos practice social skills, realize that they are an important part of our school community, and that they have many gifts to give to others. Today, it was also Andrew's birthday and we celebrated with cupcakes. |
